Over the last six months I’ve had the privilege of talking with some amazing Borderplex leaders on The 323 Podcast. Many of them are doing genuinely remarkable work in this city. People like Kris Yagel, interim CEO of El Pasoans Fighting Hunger — an organization serving up to 190,000 food-insecure people every year across El Paso, Hudspeth, and Culberson counties. Kris is a West Point graduate and Army veteran who brought that same commitment to showing up — “Leaders show up,” he says — to the fight against hunger on our own streets. He didn’t just step into the role, he leaned in hard during some of the most difficult funding seasons the food bank has faced.
What strikes me every time I have a conversation like that one is this: the passion is here. The people are here. The problems are here. What’s often missing is the connection — the moment when someone working on hunger in El Paso meets someone who has resources they’re trying to deploy more strategically, and they realize they need each other.
That’s an important gap worth closing.
Introducing the Solving the World’s Greatest Problems Conference
On Friday, May 8th, C12 Borderplex and KELP Christian Radio are co-hosting what we believe is the first-ever local gathering for the Solving the World’s Greatest Problems Conference right here in El Paso.
This is a global simulcast bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, givers, and non-profit leaders around one central question: What problem are you uniquely positioned to solve?
What Is the SWGP Conference?
Created by the team atFaith Driven Movements, the Solving the World’s Greatest Problems Conference is built on a conviction that faith-driven entrepreneurs, investors, and givers have always been at the forefront of the world’s hardest problems, and that this generation has the resources, the technology, and the global access to do something unprecedented.
The conference moves people from inspiration to activation. You’ll hear from present-day problem-solvers including Tim Tebow, who will challenge everyone in the room to reframe ROI from “return on investment” to “return on impact.” Laila Mickelwait, who mobilized millions of people and forced one of the world’s largest websites to remove 91% of its content after discovering it was profiting from trafficking and abuse. David Platt, who will call you to see this exact moment in history for what it is and to recognize the unique role you’ve been positioned to play in it.
But this isn’t a conference that leaves you overwhelmed by every headline. The heart of it is a simpler, more personal question: What’s on your heart? And the practical follow-through: What can you actually do about it?
A Framework for Action
For givers who have ever felt like their giving wasn’t making the dent they hoped, or who’ve wanted to learn from organizations that are genuinely best-in-class at what they do, this is the room where those conversations begin.
This is not a fund-raising event, this is an event that seeks to motivate us to work smarter AND harder towards shared goals. However, SWGP has developed a series of giving funds — each focused on a specific problem, each led by people with deep expertise and accountability structures — so that when you feel that stirring toward a particular cause, there’s already a community and a pathway waiting for you.
Who Should Be in the Room
This gathering is specifically designed for three groups of people in El Paso:
- Non-profit leaders and problem-solvers who are already doing the hard work and need to connect with a broader community of people running alongside them.
- Givers and investors who are serious about deploying resources in ways that actually move the needle — and want the tools and relationships to do that well.
- Business owners and entrepreneurs who’ve been wondering whether their platform, their network, and their influence could be pointed at something bigger than the bottom line.
If you hear yourself in any of those descriptions, this event is for you.
